Low-Speed Skills Class

To be a good rider requires a solid foundation of skills. Many professional motorcycle instructors have been heard saying: “anyone can ride fast on a motorcycle and with practice riding fast can be done safely. But to be truly comfortable riding fast you must first master riding slowly.” .jpg)
Have you ever tried a tight U-turn and had to put a foot (or maybe both feet) on the ground? We can teach you how to maneuver your bike at low speed without having to put a foot down, to be smooth and quick on your controls to provide a stable - and above all – a safe riding experience!
Antelope Valley Harley-Davidson is proud to employ some of California’s best motorcycle instructors who will provide you with the tools to be good at low-speed handling and control of any motorcycle. This training gives you the solid foundation you need for confident and assertive control on the street.
We focus on four techniques and teach you how to use individually and together.
- Head and eyes – master visual directional control
- Clutch management – precisely control how much power goes to the rear wheel
- Rear brake application – controlled use of the rear brake increases stability
- Body position – learn to use your body to keep the motorcycle balanced (and upright!)
To participate in this class, you will need to bring your own motorcycle and riding gear (sturdy pants with no holes, rips or tears of any kind, over the ankle leather riding boots, full fingered gloves and ¾ or better helmet). The class will be conducted at the dealership in the parking lot area.
Hot dogs and soft drinks will be provided.
Advanced Riding Skill Class

As we are out riding, we are always on the lookout for drivers who may not be paying attention or are making mistakes – and with good reason! But the motorcycle crash data tell us that many crashes (perhaps even most) could be prevented by an alert rider with advanced skills in braking, cornering, and swerving. When you are master of your machine, you can avoid crashes (even if the problem was caused by someone else!).
Antelope Valley Harley-Davidson is proud to employ some of California’s best motorcycle instructors who will inspire, educate, and train you to master the skills of maximum braking, cornering, and swerving on your motorcycle. This training goes far beyond the skills taught in the basic class and will give you the skills and the confidence to skillfully manage hazards on the street.
We focus on four techniques and teach you how to use individually and together.
- Maximum braking – get your bike stopped in the shortest distance possible
- Cornering – learn to master speed, body position, ground clearance, visual directional control, and more. With these skills, there will be no more “fighting the bike” to get it through a turn
- Swerving – When there isn’t enough room to stop (or when stopping puts you at risk of being rear-ended), you’ll have the skill and confidence to swerve out of the way and escape the hazard
To participate in this class, you will need to bring your own motorcycle and riding gear (sturdy pants with no holes, rips or tears of any kind, over the ankle leather riding boots, full fingered gloves and ¾ or better helmet).
The class will be conducted at the Antelope Valley Fair Grounds.
